A Portrait of the artist as a young girl, a nod to James Joyce

Promising talent?
An abstract masterpiece by a three-year old, or a pre-schooler playing with tempera paint? A thoughtful use of color, brush stroke and negative space, or an abstract self portrait? In either case, I’m glad my pre-school teacher, Mrs. Millicent Budlong of Warwick, Rhode Island, took this photo nearly five decades ago, and that my mom kept it all these years.
